Sophie is a quiet and unassuming beauty who has taken to celibacy, right around the time she took up with Arthur. She is extremely well read, particularly in the Russian classics, and comes across as an ingenue from a Chekhov play. Despite her seemingly innocent and virtuous nature, there is something about her that you can't quite put your finger on. At times, she flashes a coy smile as if she were hiding a secret.
