Lt. Erik Carlson is Sarah Linden's new boss at the Seattle Police Department. He took over for Lt. Michael Oakes, who was pushed into early retirement due to poor management of the Rosie Larsen case. Carlson admires Linden's commitment to the Larsen case but says he's unimpressed with her police work. Nevertheless, he agrees to let her continue on the case, largely at the insistence of District Attorney Niilsen.
