Characters
Betty Francis Played by January Jones
Betty Francis is the wife of Henry Francis, Director of Public Relations and Research for Nelson Rockefeller, New York's governor. She is divorced from Don Draper, a Founding Partner at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. She and Don have three children: Sally, Bobby and Gene.
A graduate of Bryn Mawr College and a former model, Betty moves to Ossining, New York, after marrying Don. Throughout their marriage, Betty is aware of Don's infidelities. When she learns about Don's affair with Bobbie Barrett, she confronts him and demands that he leave their home.
Betty and Don reconcile after she discovers she is pregnant with Gene, but she encourages the attentions of Henry, whom she met at a party hosted by Roger and Jane Sterling. Henry's political maneuvering helps Betty and other housewives thwart a development project. He tells her that he enjoys making her happy and kisses her.
Betty divorces Don shortly after discovering his secret past. Despite her remarriage, their lives remain intertwined because of the children. After witnessing Betty's agitation at seeing Don out on a date, Henry suggests that her ex-husband is taking too much space in her life and perhaps her heart as well. Betty and Henry have disagreements over parenting; Henry's mother describes Betty's children as "terrified of her."
At the Ossining home on the day Don has a real-estate appointment to sell it, Betty hints that life with Henry in her new home isn't perfect. Don's disclosure of his engagement to Megan momentarily takes Betty aback, but she congratulates him as she hands over the Ossining key.
