Lesli Linka Glatter began her directing career through American Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women. Her first short film "Tales of Meeting and Parting" was nominated for an Academy Award as well as winning numerous awards in festivals throughout the country.
Glatter made her feature film directorial debut with New Line’s successful coming-of-age comedy Now and Then featuring Demi Moore, Melanie Griffith, Rosie O’Donnell and Christina Ricci. Previously, she directed HBO’s highly acclaimed State of Emergency, which received a Cable ACE nomination for Best Picture as well as a nomination for the Humanitas award. Her other HBO films include Into the Homeland and The Promise. Glatter’s most recent film was the romantic period drama: Polygram’s The Proposition starring Kenneth Branagh, Madeline Stowe and William Hurt.
In addition to her film accolades Lesli has made a name for herself in television. She has recently directed episodes of the highly acclaimed show The Closer with Kyra Sedgwick, Aaron Sorkin’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip as well as numerous episodes of West Wing, Third Watch, NYPD Blue, Brooklyn South, and ER including the 1998 season finale. She has also directed various episodes of the highly acclaimed Freaks and Geeks, Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories and Twin Peaks for David Lynch, where she received a Director’s Guild Nomination. In addition to her episodic experience Lesli has also directed numerous pilots including the critically acclaimed Gilmore Girls for Warner Brothers Television, In My Life for Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope and the WB, and Newton for Joel Silver and Warner Bros. Television for UPN.
Currently Lesli is in development on numerous film and television projects. In addition to her film and television work Lesli presently serves on the American Film Institute’s Education and Training Board, The Western Directors Council of the Director’s Guild of America, as an alternate Board Member to the National Board of the DGA, The Silver Circle of Women in Film, the Advisory Board of Step Up Women’s Network, and is a mentor for the Independent Feature Projects’ Project Involve.
Prior to her work as a director, Glatter was a modern dance choreographer working throughout Europe, Asia and the United States. Lesli lives in Los Angeles with her husband Clayton Campbell, a fine artist and Co-Director of the 18th Street Arts Center, and their son, Nick.
