The newest resident in the Draper's suburban neighborhood, Helen Bishop is a mother of two -- a boy and a girl. She is the subject of intense gossip in the community due to her recent divorce and, oddly enough, the fact that she takes long walks. When she pays a visit to Sally’s birthday party, Francine’s husband Carlton offers his parental skills to the unamused single mom. After a run-in with her ex-husband Dan, Helen reveals to Betty that the reason for their breakup was his many women in the city. One night, Helen enlists Betty to babysit her 9-year-old son Glen while she stuffs envelopes for John F. Kennedy’s campaign. Several days later, at the market, Helen confronts Betty about how she found some of her hair in Glen’s treasure box and gets a slap across the cheek from Betty.
