Betty Draper is recently separated from Don Draper, a Founding Partner at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. A graduate of Bryn Mawr College and a former model, Betty moved to Ossining, New York, after marrying Don. The couple has three children together: Sally, Bobby and Gene.
Betty has long been aware of her husband’s infidelities. When she learns about Don's affair with Bobbie Barrett, she confronts him and demands that he leave their home. During their separation, she discovers she’s pregnant with a third child and has a one-night fling with a stranger in a bar. Though she briefly considers terminating the pregnancy, she eventually decides to keep it and allow Don to return home.
Months later, Betty finds herself increasingly attracted to Henry Francis, the head of public relations for New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller, who helps Betty stall a land development project in Ossining. After discovering the truth about Don's secret past, she meets with Henry, who proposes marriage. A few weeks later, Betty tells Don that she wants a divorce.
