Walter White, Jr.

RJ Mitte as Walter White, Jr.

Young actor RJ Mitte arrived in Hollywood from Lafayette, L, in 2006 and immediately landed a talent manager and began his acting training.

Born with cerebral palsy, Mitte first began as a background actor while honing the auditioning process for commercials and episodic television. He worked as a regular in background roles on two hit shows, Grey’s Anatomy and Hannah Montana.

While the role of Walt White, Jr. may have seemed tailor made, like all actors, Mitte earned the right to play this character by studying acting, empathizing with the character’s needs, and re-learning physical conditions that he had long overcome through intensive and prolonged therapy.

The physical challenges such as walking on crutches, exaggerating a more slurred speech pattern, and dealing with basic muscle contraction are physical demands that are common with cerebral palsy. Mitte’s effort to regress was to help lend as much authenticity to Walter Jr. as possible.
